Reducing our impact on the environment
has been a major concern to BEKB | BCBE for some time – the bank developed its first concept for an
efficient energy use as early as 1995.
Energy efficiency in our properties
has continually been improved over the last few years and innovative solutions were implemented. As
a result BEKB | BCBE won the
2006 Solar Award presented by the Solar Agency Switzerland for the solar system installed at the Thun
branch where the concept of solar cooling has been implemented.
We will continue down this path and will take environmental questions into account in our refurbishment
projects as well as in new buildings. BEKB | BCBE has reduced its greenhouse
gas emissions by over 50% since 2001. By 2015, we intend to reduce our emissions by a further 5% (baseline
2011) – for details, see our sustainability model. Over
the course of 2011, we will have achieved carbon neutrality by offsetting the remaining greenhouse gas
emissions through reductions certificates from our economic area. In doing so, we not only contribute
to the environment but also simultaneously support the local business. For
